The 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. closure of one lane on Route 35 continues Monday, after having resumed last Friday. Workers are installing a gas line as part of a longer-term project to replace the bridge over Ridgefield Brook. The closure is in front of Fox Hill condominiums. It will continue through this week with periodic resumptions during the year. Workers are building a temporary two-way bridge to allow work on the replacement of the existing bridge.
Though the lane closing is occurring after the morning rush and before the evening rush, major backups will occur.
Motorists seeking alternate routes have limited options.
Heading into town from points north, the simplest route is to drive past the Route 35-Route 7 intersection (Valero gas station) and go to New Road (right) to Farmingville Road (right) to Ligi’s Way (a left) and into town.
[Another option is past the Route 35-Route 7 intersection to Haviland (left) to Limekiln (left) to Lee (right) to Farmingville (right) to Ligi (left) but this route is on narrower and more windy roads.]
Heading out of town the same route is simplest: Ligi’s Way to Farmingville to New Road to Route 7.
For those on the east side of town headed to Danbury, options are North Salem Road to Ridgebury Road to George Washington Highway and into Danbury. That same option is good for those headed toward the east side of town from Danbury.
