The Connecticut STEM Foundation, Inc. announces that this year’s CT STEM Fair will be awarding more than $10,000 in prizes and scholarships to deserving students. This amount is up from $4,000 in previous years.
Awards are categorized into four disciplines: Health, Behavioral, Environmental and Physical science. Cash prizes are given to First, Second, Third Place and Honorable Mention. There also are cash awards for teams.
In addition to awards given on the day of the fair, the Connecticut STEM Foundation will award two graduating seniors with scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. This money is to be used towards college expenses. In addition, the Foundation will be providing one scholarship of $500 towards a summer science program to an underclassman. In total, $2,500 in scholarships will be awarded, an increase of 50% from last year.
The increase in awards and scholarships is due in part by the generous support of major sponsor, the Sexauer Foundation. Their support and vision of the CT STEM Foundation’s mission has propelled the CT STEM Fair to grow from eight students in 2001 to more than 200 students this year.
More than 200 judges and about 50 volunteers will participate in the 16th annual Connecticut STEM Science Fair to be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Darien High School. The Fair opens to the public at 11 a.m. featuring hundreds of individual student projects, keynote speaker Peter Shankman, and the awards ceremony.
Shankman is a spectacular example of what happens when you merge the power of pure creativity with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), add a dose of adventure, and make it work to your advantage.
The Connecticut STEM Foundation sponsors are the Sexauer Foundation, Laticrete International, ASML, the Office of Naval Research and Yale New-Haven Hospital.
