David L. Martin, 81 of Danbury, formerly of Ridgefield, passed away on November 11, 2015. Mr. Martin was the husband of the late Delores Martin.
Mr. Martin was born on November 27, 1933 in Norwood, Massachusetts; a son of the late Harold and Elva (Lamn) Martin. He attended Union College earning a Bachelor’s degree.
Mr. Martin worked as a Technical Writer for the DuPont Company, and later in life for J.C. Penney.
A Danbury resident for the past 15 years, Mr. Martin had previously resided in Ridgefield for over 40 years. In Ridgefield, he was a member of the Ridgefield Chorale, a singing group, and earlier in life was a member of a barbershop quartet. Having had a daughter with intellectual disabilities, he was a supporter of SPHERE, an organization for people with disabilities. His great passion was antique automobiles; he owned numerous antique automobiles throughout his lifetime, and attended and showed cars at many antique car shows, and was a model car collector as well.
Mr. Martin is survived by his two children: Dr. Randy Martin, a psychologist, and his wife Ms. Kim Martin, an architect, and Mrs. Cindy Mann and her husband Mr. Kris Mann, who both work at the Prospector Theatre in Ridgefield. He is also survived by two grandchildren; Kenna and Cole.
In addition to his children and grandchildren, Mr. Martin is survived by two brothers, George and William Martin.
Mr. Martin was predeceased by his wife, Delores (Hayward) Martin, and by a sister, Ann Carroll.
Funeral arrangements are private; there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Prospector Theatre (http://www.prospectortheater.org) whose mission it is to provide adults with disabilities opportunities for meaningful employment and vocational training, or SPHERE (http://www.spherect.org ), whose mission is to enrich and enhance, through education, recreation and the arts, the lives of adults with a broad range of developmental disabilities.
