Six scouts from Ridgefield’s Troop 49 were presented with Boy Scouts highest award Saturday night, Jan. 4, at Saint Mary Church in the Hall.

The scouts were Joseph Anthony Vill, Kyle Michael Peterson, James Paul Payne, Kyle James Chester, Ciaran Wade Kager, and Francis Albert Scribner.

After an invocation from Saint Mary Pastor, Monsignor Laurence R. Bronkiewicz, Senior Patrol Leader Ryan Chester and Master of Ceremonies Deacon Andrew Vill, Assistant Scout Master of Troop 49 and an Eagle Scout, led the evening.

Connecticut Yankee Council Assistant Commissioner  Michael Carpenter, also of Ridgefield, read the Eagle Charge reminding the Eagle Scouts that the foremost responsibility of an Eagle Scout is to live with honor.

The six scouts received civic recognition from First Selectman Rudy Marconi and citations from Hartford for their projects and their service to the community.

Projects included bluebird boxes on Lake Windwing, bird boxes on the Ridgefield Recreation Center trail, bat houses on Lake Windwing, songbird boxes at Richardson Park, owl houses at Sturges Park, and two picnic tables at Saint Mary School.

Tom O’Brien, the council’s district commissioner, awarded the scouts with the Connecticut Yankee Eagle Council patches.

A large number of Eagle Scouts present that night joined former Troop 49 member and Eagle Scout David Payne as he administered the Eagle Scout Challenge and they reaffirmed their allegiance to the Scout Oath.

Troop 49 meets weekly at McKeon Hall at Saint Elizabeth Seton Church on Wednesdays at 7. For further information,   contact Scout Master Michael Scribner at scribnermd@gmail.com
