The Mexican tradition of piñatas, brightly colored papier-mâché sculptures filled with goodies, will be celebrated at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum on Saturday, Jan. 18.
Teaching artist Lucia Hierro will help visitors create their own piñatas, experiment with different techniques to decorate the sculptures, and fill and then playfully smash them.
From 10 to noon, children aged 2 to 5 are invited to play in the galleries, followed by storytime and art-making. From 1 to 3, children aged 6 to 10 may engage in gallery games and hands-on art projects.
Each session will include snack time, and although the workshops are geared to a specific age range, siblings and friends of all ages are welcome to participate. All children must be accompanied by a caregiver.
Third Saturdays are free for Aldrich members and children aged 18 and under, free with the price of museum admission for non-members. For more information, contact Michelle Friedman at mfriedman@aldrichart.org or 203-438-4519.
