Dolores Broughton Robinson, age 87, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, died peacefully on August 26, 2013.
Mrs. Robinson was born September 25, 1925 in Buffalo, NY, the beloved daughter of the late Norbert and Lavinia Broughton. She was raised and educated in Washington, D.C. where she was a graduate of a University of the District of Columbia predecessor college, where she excelled, attained supplementary certificates of continuing education from Bank Street College of Education and other institutions.
Dolores served as the Ridgefield Community Kindergarten’s teacher and director for more than 45 years from the school’s founding as a private institution in 1959. During school breaks, she travelled extensively to study and tour childhood educational institutions in Japan, England, and the Soviet Union, among other countries.
Under her direction, the school thrived and grew. The Ridgefield Community Kindergarten founders and their families were Dolores’ lifelong friends.
She was the beloved sister of Rita Jane Brandon and the late Phoebe Ann Reeves, Pauline Ellen Mitchell, and Agnes Elizabeth Nickens. She was the cherished mother of Constance Tilden Loeser and Ashton Morris Robinson. She was the mother-in-law of Ellen Life Robinson.
Mrs. Robinson was the adored grandmother of Emily May Banffy, John Ashton Loeser, Edward Broughton, grandmother-in-law of Dr. Michael Brian Banffy, and great-grandmother of Jaden Ashton Robinson. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grandnieces.
Dolores Robinson spent her later years in Laurel Ridge Health Care Center was loved by the staff, nurses and aides.
Her family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM on Friday, September 13, 2013 in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, CT.
Funeral services and burial will be private.
