Heavy rain and some lightning hit town this afternoon, causing local flooding and closing one lane of Route 35, Danbury Road.
Police said the southbound lane of 35 was closed in the vicinity of Ritch Drive, north of the Irving station, and that traffic was backing up trying to get around the tree.
Redding reportedly is having more serious problems, with possibly a bridge out, and several roads, including Umpawaug, closed by trees down and flooding. A least one car became stuck in high water.
A TV news crew is in that town, covering the flooding.
East Ridge Middle School’s weather station reports an inch of rain had fallen by 5 p.m., at a rate of 2.12 inches an hour.
CL&P is reporting all power on in town.
The state highway department is sending a crew to remove the Danbury Road tree.
