Maine is known for lobster and its rocky coastling, but Tom McKee of Striper Maine-iac says the state is also a hotbed for striper fishing. He shares his insights with Yankee Fisherman on the lures and tactics for success in Vacationland in an interview recored at the Connecticut Surfcasters Association Demo Day.

The Candlewood Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited is planning a trip to the Farmington for Saturday, March 26, and a warm March means a lot of hatches and a lot of hungry, active fish. The website cvtu.org says an early Hendrickson hatch is likely, and that translates to “plenty of Hendrickson nymphs moving around sub-surface right now. Any of the hundreds of varieties of Pheasant Tail and Hare’s Ear nymphs in sizes 12, 14, and 16 should be staples, plus the usual spring flies such as small black stoneflies in both dry and nymph patterns, blue wing olive patterns in all their forms, plus your favorite streamer patterns” should work.
