Light snow fell over the first night of spring, causing a handful of closings and delays Monday, March 21.
The University of Connecticut Sunday canceled all classes before noon. UConn students are returning from spring break Monday.
A handful of local school districts are on a delayed opening Monday.
Snow, as well as advisories issued by the National Weather Service, all are set to end Monday morning.
Much of the snow that is sticking is on trees and grassy surfaces, not roadways.
Total accumulations increased from west to east. Connecticut’s westernmost counties, Fairfield and Litchfield, are not under any advisories, while the rest of the state is under a winter weather advisory until mid morning Monday. Western Connecticut received a coating to an inch of snow, with 2 to 3 inches falling in central Connecticut and 4 to 6 inches to the east.
Whatever snow fell should not stick around long. Highs Monday and Tuesday are expected to be in the upper 40s, then climb to 60 Wednesday before sliding into the upper 50s Thursday and Friday. After the snow ends Monday, a mostly sunny Tuesday is followed by cloudiness Wednesday and Thursday, with thunderstorms possible Friday.
The storm, which spurred officials to cancel the Greenwich St. Patrick’s Day Parade, arrived on the first night of spring. The vernal equinox occurred at at 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the Eastern time zone.
