UPDATE 6:25 — First Selectman Rudy Marconi has been in contact with CL&P and reports the following: Most of the 69 customers offline on Old Branchville Road should be back with power shortly; five other homes may have to wait until after midnight because they have underground circuits that need work. St. John’s Road, where lightning strikes popped several fuses and breakers, should be back within a couple hours; 60 customers are offline there.

Wednesday, 5 p.m. — CL&P now says 242 customers have no power.

Wednesday, 4:45 — A heavy thunderstorm rolled across Ridgefield around 4 this afternoon, causing flooding on roads and triggering many alarms, particularly in the southern part of town.

CL&P reported at 4:40 that 235 customers were without power.

A tree fell on Old Branchville Road, snapping a pole there. The road is closed near #192, and CL&P has been summoned.

Lines to a house on High Ridge were hit by lightning, but the fire department found no serious damage. The fire department is also investigating a lightning strike at 48 Olmstead Lane.

School buses have been reporting delivery delays because of the flooding and the heavy rainfall, which at times obscured vision.

A number of houses have reported basement flooding.

AT&T internet and phone service was knocked out for a short while in parts of town.
