With Ridgefield Public Schools on a planned closure for staff development — which itself is on a delay — road traffic will be down as the National Weather Service has put our area under a winter weather advisory until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Freezing rain is expected to turn into plain rain around daybreak, but after accumulations of up to one-10th of an inch of ice.
“A slow thaw of frozen ground is expected to result in icing of untreated road surfaces and walkways … into early Tuesday morning,” according to the National Weather service advisory, which warned conditions could make travel dangerous into the early Tuesday commute.
Numerous accidents were reported throughout town last night, as well as on the Merritt Parkways. I-95 North was closed in New Haven and Guilford before dawn Tuesday due to crashes involving tractor-trailers.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-50s with strong winds Tuesday, and highs are expected to exceed the freezing mark the rest of this week.
