There’s new blood on the Ridgefield Conservation Commission.

The two new members who will be seated for the next meeting, Feb. 8, are Tim Bishop and Jim Coyle, said Ben Oko, a longtime member who recently resigned from his full seat to take an alternate seat when that becomes possible.

Both candidates have backgrounds in engineering that may assist in the job of supervising and managing the town’s 2,500 acres of open space. Members appear before the Planning and Zoning Commission to comment on wetlands. They also raise funds for the purchase of more open space and take care of 50 miles of trails.

“We had a resignation some time ago, when Laura Craighead resigned, and have been trying since then to find new members,” Oko said.

A month ago, several potential members appeared.

There was only one opening, so in the interest of new blood, Oko resigned his full seat with the intention of taking an alternate seat when that becomes available.

“I’ve been on the commission for 16 years,” Oko said.

It is a nine-member commission.

Members of the commission are appointed by the Board of Selectmen.
