Southwestern Connecticut is under a winter weather advisory until noon, with moderate snow and reduced visibilities among the hazards the National Weather Service said can be expected.

Rain mixed with snow overnight, and forecast to become all snow by daybreak and lasting into early afternoon. Accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected. Ridgefield schools have been cancelled.

Winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour are expected, with gusts of up to 30 miles per hour.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. The National Weather Service advised motorists to be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, particularly during morning rush hour and around school opening times.
