Two young female students at Ridgefield High School got trapped in an elevator for unknown reasons Wednesday, Jan. 27, just after 4 p.m.

The elevator jammed between the first and second floor, said Fire Chief Kevin Tappe, who said firefighters responded with two rescue trucks, one from Ridgebury and one from headquarters.

The firefighters spoke to the girls through the door.

“They were not injured but they got a little panicky,” Tappe said.

The firefighters were able to manually drag the elevator back to the first floor. The doors opened about 40 minutes into the ordeal and the girls ran out. “They ran away. We didn’t treat anybody,” Tappe said.

Otis Elevator Co. sent a mechanic to figure out what went wrong with the elevator, Tappe said.
