The state Department of Transportation late Wednesday announced a break from work Jan. 28 on the Route 35 bridge. Traffic will be normal on the road throughout the day.
The work will return on Friday, and that is when traffic will return to the alternating one-way pattern from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., said Capt. Jeffery Kreitz, spokesman for the Ridgefield Police Department.
The DOT did not say why work needs to stop for the day. There have been several delays to the project since it began in the fall.
The project consists of constructing a temporary roadway and bridge to maintain traffic in both directions.
The bridge will be replaced by removing the existing superstructure and a portion of the abutments and constructing a new span consisting of pile caps and a precast concrete deck. Also, storm water collection and drainage systems will be installed.
This DOT project was awarded to Baier Construction Co. Inc. at a cost of $2.5 million on July 17 and is scheduled to be completed in May 2017.
