A 69-year-old woman who got lost in the woods Saturday afternoon, Dec. 12, at Bennett’s Pond State Park was lucky her cell phone had a strong battery, because police say the signals ultimately helped rescuers locate her.
The woman got lost around 1 p.m., called police for help at 3:15 p.m., and was found partly by electronically tracking her cell phone signal at 6:45 p.m., said Capt. Jeffery Kreitz, spokesman for the police department.
She was so deep in the woods she could not hear the sirens, Kreitz said.
She was ultimately located in the Ives Court area, off Pine Mountain Road.
“There was no sense of danger; our officers were in communication with her throughout,” Kreitz said. The only concern was that her battery would die.
Two state canine units, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Ridgefield Fire, Danbury Fire, Danbury Police, and West Redding Fire all participated in the search.
