David Cordisco, 54, a former member of the Board of Education who failed to win a seat in the general election last month, is back on the board to fill a vacancy.

Cordisco, a Republican, was unanimously selected by the Board of Education during its meeting Monday evening at the Town Hall Annex to take the place of Republican Christopher Murray, who suddenly resigned last month despite being the top vote-getter in the race for school board seats.

The board advertised the vacancy for two weeks in the classified section of The Press. Cordisco was the only one who responded.

The board is now complete. The members are Democrat Frances Walton, chairman; Republican Scott Mason, vice chairman; Democrat Michael Taylor, secretary; Republican Cordisco, Republican Sharon D’Orso; Republican James Keidel; Republican Tracey O’Connor; Democrat Douglas Silver, and Democrat Karen Sulzinksy.

Cordisco is making his second appearance on the school board without being elected. Both times he has been selected by the board members to replace outgoing members who resigned.

Cordisco has lived in town since 2000 and has a daughter in the system and another who graduated from the high school three years ago.

Board members asked him several questions about how much he could contribute to the board and what he brings to the table. He impressed them with previous experience on the board and his business background. For example, he has been vice president of A Wireless Inc., a premium retailer for Verizon, and said he has experience in budgets and large organization management.

He now operates several mobile phone repair shops in Fairfield County, called Device ER.
