Stores in Copps Hill Plaza are open but without water today following a water main break in the morning. The water main to the plaza has been shut off while workers from Aquarion work on the lines. Water erupted along Copps Hill Road late morning turning the road into a one-way route as police re-routed traffic around the gushing water.

Though without water, Stop and Shop and Kohl’s are both open.

Water pressure to many Ridgefield homes on the Aquarion system has been low for most of the day but was reportedly restored by 2 p.m. Friday.

After shutting the water main, the only customers that remained without water were a dentist’s office, a day care center, Stop & Shop and Kohl’s, a spokesman for Aquarion said.

All those business are at Copps Hill Plaza.

The repair work was expected to take six hours, which means the evening rush hour would be affected. Police officers were expected to be on the scene directing traffic around the repair site.

A portion of the roadway had been recently cut for construction or repair work was pushed up but it was not clear if that work had anything to do with the break.

Until the ground is excavated there is no way to tell what caused the break, the spokesman said.
