Scott Toperzer, minister of music at St. Stephen’s.
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will present Carols by Candlelight on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. in the church’s sanctuary. The concert is presented by the St. Stephen’s festival choir, St. Stephen’s choristers, soloists, and the Connecticut Chamber Players, a 28-piece professional orchestra. Scott Toperzer, St. Stephen’s minister of music, will conduct.
The concert will interweave readings, carols, hymns, choruses, solos, and orchestral pieces into a presentation of the birth and reign of Christ.
The opening hymn, O Come, Emanuel, is sung by the choir in candlelight procession. Its evocation of Advent’s anticipation is continued by Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence, arranged by Ralph Vaughn Williams.
The concert will include Christmas Cantata by American composer Daniel Pinkham.
Also on the program is Corelli’s Christmas Concerto, performed by the Connecticut Chamber Players. Traditional carols will be interspersed throughout the concert, which will conclude with a performance of Hallelujah.
There is no charge, although a donation of $20 is suggested.
