Holiday happenings at Beardsley Zoo

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, the state’s only zoo, located at 1875 Noble Avenue in Bridgeport releases its December-February calendar of events. For the most up to date information, visit BeardsleyZoo.org or Facebook.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is open daily, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adult admission (ages 12 & older) is $14. Children (ages 3-11) and senior admission (62 and older) is $11, and children under 3 are free. Zoo members are admitted free. Parking at the Zoo is free of charge.

December events

Breakfast with Frosty and Friends: Dec. 12, 13, 19, and 20, 9-10 a.m.

Frosty and his friends will be available for photo opps and breakfast will be served. Reservations are required. Call Amanda Bolanos, 203-394-6574. $10 per person for Zoo members, $15 per person for non-members. Price includes Zoo admission, photo opps, and breakfast.

Ella_and_Spencer_(the_rabbiDec. 8 and 9: Zoo Tots, 10:30 a.m. This monthly 45-minute program for children 22 months to 4-years-old, who are accompanied by an adult, may include theme-related stories, activities, a simple craft, and live animals. December’s program will focus on Winter Fun. Advance registration is required by calling 203-394-6563. Cost is $10 for Zoo members and one child, and $15 for non-members and one child.

The Zoo will be open for half days on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The last visitor will be admitted at noon and the doors will close at 1 p.m. The Zoo is closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Jan. 14: Conservation Discovery Corps application deadline

The Conservation Discovery Corps introduces high school teens to the dynamic field that includes hands-on experience being a wildlife steward, field conservationist, and educator. The complete Conservation Discovery Corps Application Packet (application form, two reference letters, and letter of student’s interest) must be received by Jan. 15 or postmarked by Jan. 14 to be considered.

Jan. 18: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

The Zoo is honoring the civil rights leader’s life and achievements by offering $5 admission today.

February events

Beardsley-Zoo-AsianNewYearFeb. 13: Asian New Year Celebration, noon-3.

Celebrate the Year of the Monkey with special stories, crafts, a children’s parade, and many more activities. Snow date is Feb. 20.

Feb. 14: Summer Internship Application Deadline

Internships are available for college level students and recent graduates in animal care, education, horticulture and veterinary care. Program details may be be found at BeardsleyZoo.org under Membership & Support / Volunteer / Interns. For more information, call 203-330-6046.

Visit our Tropical Winter Greenhouse

Enjoy a visit to a tropical paradise at our Victorian Greenhouse. As you stroll through, you can see several species flowering. It’s a short walk through another world. Free with Zoo admission.
