Limekiln puddle easement hearing rescheduled

A drainage easement proposal that would advance the town’s plans to repave Limekiln Road is still headed for a public hearing and town meeting, but they’re being rescheduled.

Under the easement Anthony and Carol Turner would allow the town to build a drainage system on a part of their two-acre lot, facilitating the disposal of storm runoff.

“Limekiln is earmarked for resurfacing,” Town Public Works Services Director Peter Hill told the Board of Selectmen’s June 10 meeting.

“We have an area between Linden Road and Lee Road that creates a puddle, quite a big puddle,” Hill said.

“We want to eliminate that.”

The proposal had been scheduled for a public hearing Wednesday, July 8, with a town meeting to follow on Aug. 5, but then the selectmen’s July 8 meeting was canceled.

First Selectman Rudy Marconi said Tuesday, June 30, that possible dates for the rescheduled proceedings might be Aug. 22 for the public hearing and Sept. 2 for the town meeting — but firm dates haven’t been set.

Before the board approved the easement to go to hearing, Selectman Maureen Kozlark asked if the town, by putting in a drainage system, might not risk being accused of creating a water problem elsewhere.

“It’ll go into a wetlands that acts as a filter,”  Marconi replied.

“It’s an ideal spot for the drainage to go, and he’s willing to give us an easement,” said Hill.

“We’re not just putting a pipe in,” he said, “We’re putting in a storm drain with a sump.”

Selectman Di Masters favored approving the easement to allow the highway department to address the water problem.

“It’s puddling in the road,” she said.
