Emma Glubiak, a graduate of Ridgefield High School in 2014 and a current international affairs major at Lafayette College, is spending the summer interning for Zidisha, which is the first global peer-to-peer micro-lending platform.

This means Zidisha works to directly connect lenders in countries like the U.S. and towns like Ridgefield to borrowers in developing countries without having to deal with local banks intermediaries.

“Zidisha is based on a huge mostly unnoticed trend: young adults in the urban slums of Africa and Asia, who are highly impoverished, but unlike previous generations, are all on Facebook and easily participate in an online marketplace like ours,” said Glubiak. “By using the Internet and technology, Zidisha makes geography irrelevant and offers direct interaction across the international wealth divide.”

Glubiak’s internship focuses on media outreach.
