Bronx woman arrested after police chase, deli crash

Ridgefield police arrested a Bronx, N.Y., woman who allegedly crashed a stolen van into Tony’s Corner Deli Saturday night after a pursuit involving multiple jurisdictions.

Ridgefield police were told by New York police of a van with an erratic operator and a brake light out headed toward Main Street around 8 p.m.

They caught up with the female driver, who reportedly stopped at a red light but did not stop for Ridgefield officers or Lewisboro police who were already in pursuit of her.

Police said the driver “fled and drove recklessly,” north up Main Street. Just before the crash a police officer reported he was traveling at 50 miles per hour.

When police approached the van and found the driver was not in the driver’s compartment of the vehicle.

Firefighters staged in the area.

The driver, identified as Giselle Rivera, 19, of the Bronx, N.Y., was found and arrested and transported to Danbury Hospital.

The Green Ford Econoline was registered to a Mahopac, N.Y., address.

Rivera was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, engaging in a pursuit, interfering with an officer, operating without a license, reckless driving.

The building inspector was called to the scene.

Rivera is being held on a $10,000 bond.
