St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will present its final Choral Evensong of the current season on Sunday, May 31, at 5 p.m. Choral Evensong is the centuries-old tradition of sung evening prayer, which also includes elements of compline, the final church service of the day.
“Everyone is welcome to join us for a meditative hour filled with wonderful music and readings,” said Scott Toperzer, minister of music at St. Stephen’s.
A wine-and-cheese reception will follow.
The Choral Evensong will be sung by the St. Stephen’s Choir and the St. Stephen’s Choristers. Selections will include the music of Alec Wyton, a former minister of music at St. Stephen’s, Craig Phillips, Andrew Walker, and Henry Shera.
The Chorister program at St. Stephen’s is a comprehensive music education program for children from third grade through high school. Choristers learn vocal training, musical skills, repertoire, how to be part of a choir, and the place of the choir in the church and the world.
