An elderly woman died Tuesday at Danbury Hospital after a car driven by her husband struck a tree head-on Friday, July 19, at 10:11 p.m. at the intersection of Ridgebury Road and Regan Road.
It was the second fatal accident in Ridgefield on Friday — the first killed a motorcyclist on Route 7 earlier in the day.
Mary Stanisci, 81 of Centereach, Long Island, N.Y., was riding with her husband, Joseph, 83, on Ridgebury Road when the couple’s vehicle “failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.”
“There was a lot of damage to the vehicle,” said Captain Tom Comstock of the Ridgefield Police Department.
Mr. Stanisci was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but Captain Comstock could not confirm his status as of Wednesday afternoon.
There was a report the vehicle was being operated without a tire when it crashed; however, Captain Comstock could not confirm that.
The investigation into the accident continues.
