“It’s underused and we want people to know it’s there,” said Matt Hicks, chairman of the town’s parking authority.
“We get so many calls from people about parking and we want to ensure maximum usage,” he added. “We want to make people aware of where they can park.”
The parking authority recently published a map of where people may park and for how long.
It’s been on the town website for a few weeks (www.ridgefieldct.org/filestorage/54/6654/parkingauthorityfinal.pdf).
Mr. Hicks said updates will be coming with the construction at the Bailey Avenue parking lot this summer.
“The first version is pretty simplistic — time limits and areas are highlighted, but we want to add some detail to it,” he said. “The map has nothing to do with the Bailey Avenue project, but it will help answer those questions that people have, such as, Where can I park all day?”
While the Governor Street lot has always been all-day parking, two new signs went up about 10 days ago that notify drivers that they may not park their vehicles overnight — at risk of being towed.
“It’s part of the town ordinance that you’re not allowed to park overnight in town lots and this is a town lot,” Mr. Hicks said. “No businesses can use it for overnight parking either.”
He explained that some residents, living above businesses in town, can obtain special landlord permits that allow them to park in town lots overnight.
“That’s the only exception,” Mr. Hicks said. “The police don’t get too many frequent calls about overnight parking, but when they do it usually turns out it’s someone who has a permit to park where they park.”
