The Nutmeg Chapter of the National Charity League held a ceremony at Scotts Ridge Middle School on May 19 to present awards to the philanthropic organizations the club supports.

In addition to more than 6,000 volunteer hours, the Ridgefield chapter donated $2,500 to 10 philanthropies.

Selectman Di Masters, director of the Ridgefield Community Center, spoke about her memories of being part of NCL for many years with her own daughters. She urged members to “continue a lifelong pursuit to serve others and to give back.” She said, “NCL has made a positive impact on our community and it would not be the same without their many volunteer hours.”

Speaking on behalf of St. Joseph’s Parenting Center in Stamford, Measi O’Rourke, executive director, said, “NCL is one of our greatest volunteer organizations that contributes to the more than 2,600 hours that serves their clients.” She said the mother-daughter teams are role models to the parents in crisis. Besides collecting supplies for the parenting center’s food pantry, NCL also provides much-needed homemade hot meals to parents. She said the partnership with NCL enhances programs and she is grateful for its time and donations.

Other philanthropies accepting awards included Ann’s Place, Founders Hall, Keeler Tavern Museum, Meals on Wheels, Necessities (breast cancer support), Operation Homefront, Safe Home, and the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury.
