Car-into-pole crash shuts down North Street

2:35 — CL&P has arrived on scene and police report the work is expected to take all afternoon and into the evening.

Original story — North Street was being shut down around 2:15 p.m. Saturday after a car reportedly struck a utility pole, taking down live wires.

Emergency responders were working to block the road from Copps Hill Road to Wooster Street.

The driver was said to be out of the car.

Some 351 Ridgefield customers were without power around 2:25, according to CL&P.

CL&P was notified of the crash and told to respond on a priority due to the live wires on the ground.
