Parking in town — already a difficult task — is about to get tougher.
The town’s construction of the Bailey Avenue parking lot is going forward full steam ahead with a start date anticipated as soon as the end of the month.
“We’re meeting with the contractor next week, and once we do, we expect everything to start very soon,” said First Selectman Rudy Marconi on Tuesday. “We’re going to develop a timeline with the Chamber of Commerce and all the downtown merchants to ensure the project goes smoothly.”
He added that the project will more than likely be done in phases, but construction “will have a consistent presence on site.”
“We want it completed ASAP — no interruptions, no disturbances,” he said. “I don’t really know what the process looks like exactly. I’ll know more after next week, but there will need to be vacated areas, and that will require some cooperation.”
Mr. Marconi couldn’t say when the project would be completed.
