Books on the Common and Ridgefield Library will host award-winning cartoonist and illustrator Roz Chast to discuss her graphic memoir Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? The program will take place at the newly expanded and renovated Ridgefield Library at 472 Main Street at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23.

“Reading Roz Chast has always had the quality of eavesdropping on a person’s private mutterings to herself. In this memoir of a most wretched time in her life, Chast is at the top of her candid form, delivering often funny, trenchant, and frequently painful revelations — about human behavior, about herself,” wrote David Small, author of Stitches.

Roz Chast’s cartoons have been published widely in The New Yorker and in many other magazines besides, including Scientific American, The Harvard Business Review, Redbook, and Mother Jones. Her last book is a comprehensive compilation of her favorite cartoons called Theories of Everything. She also illustrated The Alphabet from A to Y with Bonus Letter Z, the best-selling children’s book by Steve Martin.

This program is co-sponsored by Books on the Common; copies of Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? will be available for sale and signing at the event.

Space is limited and registration is recommended at ridgefieldlibrary.org, or call 203-438-2282.
