The Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation is hosting its annual Mother’s Day Luncheon at 11:30 on Friday, May 9, at Salem Golf Club in North Salem, N.Y.
In addition to raising money for the foundation through a silent auction, the foundation is hoping to raise money for a Connecticut boy with cerebral palsy, visual impairment and epilepsy.
Ryan, an 8-year-old boy from Bristol, is non-ambulatory and non-verbal. “His beautiful smile tells the world that he loves life,” a spokesperson for the foundation said. He lives with his parents in a two- story Cape that needs to be renovated to meet his needs and growing body. Currently there is a full bath only on the second floor and Ryan needs to be carried there to be bathed. As his weight climbs to more than 50 pounds this task is becoming more and more difficult. Ryan’s parents are hoping to renovate a small half-bath on the first floor as well as Ryan’s bedroom, which is already unable to hold al his medical and mobility equipment. This renovation will enable Ryan’s parents to continue to care for him at home for many years to come.
Ryan’s family reached out to the foundation, which was started 10 years ago by Molly’s parents to help families like themselves raising their children with special needs. Families just like Ryan’s. This is just one example of the many challenges families face every day trying to meet their children’s needs. “We are very thankful for organizations such as yours,” writes Ryan’s father, Christian. “Though we are hopeful our challenges at this time are only temporary, we have always felt it is important to help others no matter what our current situation is, and we hope we can give back to you someday.”
