Police searched Wednesday afternoon for a suspicious man with a mustache who allegedly tried to draw a young boy on Settlers Lane toward his van.

At around 4:45 Wednesday, April 16, police received a complaint about a white male in the area of Settlers Lane. Police say a 9-year-old boy was playing outside when the man drove up in a white, parked on the roadway. He reportedly got out of the van and yelled for the boy to come over to him. The boy ran to his house and the man drove off in the van.

Many area police departments have received a number of similar reports, but key differences, including differing descriptions of the drivers, exist in many of the reports. It’s unclear if any of the reports are related.

The man was described as a white man in his 50s, “balding, with a mustache and beard.  The male was wearing plain blue shorts, a plain black t-shirt and reading glasses at the time of the incident.”

The van is being described as a newer model work van, white in color, with no rear windows, and no ladder rack or markings.

Ridgefield police are investigating this incident and working with the area towns that have had similar incidents to see if there is any connection.  ”The intentions of the unidentified male are not known at this time,” police said.
