The Rotary Club of Ridgefield is accepting applications for financial grants in 2014 from local nonprofit organizations.

Last year, the club contributed more than $10,000 to local causes. In past years, the club has provided scholarships for Ridgefield High School students and donated funds to organizations including We Will Ride Therapeutic Riding, Ability Beyond Disability, the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra, OWLS, the Ridgefield Community Center, the League of Women Voters, the Graham Dickinson Skate Park, Meals on Wheels, and Rides for Ridgefield.

Grant money is used to provide services or programs, not for administrative or overhead expenses.

Throughout the year, Rotary raises funds through a variety of promotions and events, including the recent Taste of Ridgefield and the upcoming Ridgefield Goes Country BBQ Festival and Fly the Colors initiative.

This year’s recipients and the amounts they will receive will be determined after applications are reviewed.

The deadline for applications and all supporting documents is Thursday, May 1. Awards for applicants will be announced not later than June 1. Applications are available online at ridgefieldrotary.org and may be submitted online or returned by hard copy to the Rotary Club of Ridgefield, P.O. Box 41, Ridgefield CT 06877.

For further information, call Joe Kreitz at 203-438-6136 or Rainer Gonet at 203-788-8033.

The club meets every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Bar & Grille on 7; alternate Friday breakfast meetings are at 8 a.m. at Dimitri’s Diner.
