The New Jersey courts have postponed the murder trial of a man charged in the 2012 killing of Ridgefielder Brian Schiavetti.
Ernest Williams Jr. of Montclair, N.J., is charged in the shooting of Mr. Schiavetti, a college student from Ridgefield at the time he was killed.
“The trial is scheduled for June 16,” Katherine Carter, spokeswoman for the Essex County prosecutor’s office, said last week.
The case had previously been scheduled to go to court March 25.
“Nothing dramatic happened,” Ms. Carter said. “We’re down judges, so we aren’t able to try cases as quickly as we once did. The cases sometimes get delayed.”
She added of the trial’s expected June 16 start, “That date is subject to change.”
Brian Schiavetti was a student at Villanova University, living at home and interning with Thomson Reuters in New York City over the summer, when his life was taken. His body was found in an apartment building in Montclair, N.J., July 22, 2012.
Mr. Williams was arrested and charged with the shooting five days later.
