Anthony Owen “Tony” Wilmot of Sherman, a former baseball coach and owner of the Bar and Grille restaurant on Route 7, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Danbury Hospital. He was 50 years old and the husband of Kristina Traynor Wilmot.

Mr. Wilmot grew up in Ridgefield and graduated in 1982 from Ridgefield High School, where he was a standout baseball player. He went on to play at Texas Christian University, graduating in 1986.

Mr. Wilmot coached the RHS baseball team for five seasons, resigning after the 2012 season. He had a 70-42 record as head coach, and his teams made state tournament all five seasons and FCIAC tournament four seasons.

For some years he worked with his sister, Jessica Wilmot, at the Ancient Mariner restaurant. In 2009, he opened the Bar and Grille on 7, which one reviewer called “a kind of nicely polished Ridgefield take on a sports bar.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 10:15 a.m. in St. Mary Church.

Interment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery at the direction of the family.

Friends will be received in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m.
