With plans submitted to remodel its 4.5-acre Prospect Street property, Ridgefield Supply will have a Feb. 11 public hearing with the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The redevelopment application calls for most of the buildings in the lumberyard to be torn down to make way for new ones.

The goal is to increase retail, office and storage space through the construction of 10 new structures on site, including a main retail and office build facing Prospect Street.

“After many years investigating alternate sites and consideration of many options for adding to the existing buildings on the property, the owners of Ridgefield Supply Company are moving forward with a comprehensive proposal to entirely redevelop the building supply company in-place, desiring to remain in the center of town,” Phillip Doyle of Simsbury-based Landscape Architectural Design Associates said in a letter to Town Planner Betty Brosius.

Ridgefield Supply would remain open throughout the proposed one or two year construction period.

The company plans to move the old railroad depot and “rehabilitate the structure for use.”

Parking on the site would increase from 40 to 73 cars, and the main entrance-exit would continue to be from Prospect Street.

The almost-constructed Prospector Theater would be Ridgefield Supply’s neighbor to the west and the newly-opened Gallo Ristorante would be its neighbor to the east.

“Informal arrangements have been made…to allow this new parking to be used for overflow purposes,” the application says.

The property currently has about 34,000 square feet of buildings, and this would increase to about 55,200 square feet.
