Here’s what the Community Center’s Lounsbury House building would look like with the planned elevator on its southeast corner, at right. Architect John Doyle added a computer model of the proposed elevator to a photo of the building using a computer process.
A public hearing on an elevator addition for the Community Center has been canceled by the Board of Selectmen because it’s unlikely the town could win a grant to pay for it.
“We reviewed, with each consultant who bid on the project, the reality of winning a grant under this program. Both consultants confirmed that the town’s chances of receiving this grant were slim to none,” First Selectman Rudy Marconi said. “I believe the Community Center will be working with a consultant to review other grant possibilities.”
Originally the hearing had been called by the selectmen for Wednesday night, Feb. 5, as part of the requirements for a grant application the town meant to submit for the $500,000 elevator project under the state’s small cities grant program.
The town, which owns the property, and the community center, which manages the building, still hope to pursue the project.
