Rita M. Kneeland, 97, of Wilton, CT and Orleans MA, wife of the late George Jackson Kneeland, died at her Wilton residence on Friday, January 31, 2014.
Mrs. Kneeland was born in Newton, MA, January 8, 1917. She resided in Newton until the age of 15 and then moved to Uxbridge, MA, where she attended local schools. Upon graduation, she attended secretarial school and then became a secretary for a New York City corporation and upon her marriage to George J. Kneeland became a homemaker.
A resident of Wilton for the last three years coming from New Jersey, Mrs. Kneeland was an avid bridge player, enjoyed dancing and loved spending time with her family at Cape Cod.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol A. Crocker, of St. Helena Island, SC; five grandchildren, LeAnn Crocker Rogers and Jill Crocker Bornstein both of Ridgefield; Virginia Kneeland of Gaithersburg, MD; George J. Kneeland III of Shelter Island, NY; and John D. Kneeland of Sag Harbor, NY; and nine great grandchildren, Meredith and Margaret Rogers; Mathew, Andrew, Maxwell and Alexander Bornstein and Alyssa, Halley and Katie Kneeland.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Kneeland was predeceased by a son, George J. Kneeland, Jr.
Funeral Services will take place on Thursday, February 6 at 11 a.m. in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Friends will be received in the funeral home at the time of the service.
