Kevin Auslander, a member of Boy Scout Troop 431, completed his Eagle Scout project at Hemlock Hills/Lake Windwing Open Space.

Kevin, a senior at Ridgefield High School, worked with the  Conservation Commission, especially Kitsey Snow and Dave Cronin, to design and complete his project plans. His scoutmaster, David Lussier, and his local Boy Scout council approved the project.

The project consisted of securing donations of materials, supervising the work of fellow Scouts in rebuilding an existing deteriorating foot bridge, and removing an existing kiosk at the entrance of Hemlock Hills off Ned’s Mountain Road and replacing it with a new, bigger kiosk that Kevin designed and built. The old kiosk was moved to the Lake Windwing entrance to the hiking trails.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank in scouting. Kevin has held many leadership roles in Troop 431, including senior patrol leader from January to June 2013. He has been a member of the Boy Scouts since first grade, when he started as a Cub Scout in Pack 74.

Kevin thanked the many people who helped him complete his project, including his family, the Conservation Commission, Home Depot of Danbury for donating pressure-treated wood and other materials, John Stofka, the Mortinger family, and all of the Scouts and friends who helped make the project a success.
