Seven outstanding Ridgefield High School (RHS) art students were honored at the Regional Scholastic Art Awards at the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford on Sunday, Jan. 26 at the Lincoln Theatre located on the University of Hartford campus.
The 25th annual Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards is the largest juried student art exhibition in the state. Following the close of the Connecticut Regional exhibit the select senior student Gold Key award winners from each national region will have their artwork reviewed by judges at the national level in March.
Of the 40 Gold Key Portfolios consisting of eight pieces of artwork submitted, Ridgefield High School was awarded five Gold Key Portfolio awards, the most of any high school in the state.
The five seniors that were awarded Gold Key Portfolio awards along with scholarships from the Hartford Art school and New Hampshire Art Institute were Biana Bova, Sandra Carpenter, Sara Jackson, Adam Spiegelm and Seamus Edson.
Other special state level scholarship awards were offered by the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts of which Natalie Gaisser and Evgenia Owczarzak were awarded.
Diversity of expression and sophisticated artistic skill of these students are evident in the impressive display that will be held at the Slipe Gallery, Hartford Art School through Jan. 31. The event emphasizes that this program is not merely a competition but a recognition and encouragement of talented visual art students from across the state.
