John “Jack” Fawcett, 77, lawyer, outdoorsman, former mayor

John Roger “Jack” Fawcett of Ridgefield, an attorney and outdoorsman, died on Jan. 22. He was 77 years old.

Mr. Fawcett was born in Greenwich on April 17, 1936, son of Roger Knowlton Fawcett and Helen Aline Berquist.  He attended Greenwich Country Day School, graduated from Eaglebrook School in Lawrenceville, Lehigh University, and received his law degree from Vanderbilt University.  He was a member of Chi Psi fraternity.

Mr. Fawcett practiced law in New York City and was legal counsel for the sale of Fawcett Publications to CBS in 1976.

After retiring from law practice, he moved to Avon, Colo., where he served on the town council and was mayor from 1996 to 98.

He was an avid skier and an accomplished trapshooter and was chairman of the New York Athletic Club Trapshooting Association.

He is survived by his life partner, Helen-Ann Comstock, children Roger, Scott, Nancy Pietrorazio, and their mother Betsy Wurtmann; son Travis and his mother Diana Fawcett; two grandchildren, and his brother Thomas.

Memorial services will take place in the spring.
