7:10 a.m. — Schools confirm they will open on a three-hour delay.
Wednesday, 5:40 a.m. — A little over four inches of extremely fluffy snow fell on Ridgefield yesterday, causing remarkably few problems but putting schools on a three-hour delay today.
Only a couple of minor accidents and stuck cars were reported during the storm, a far cry from Saturday’s sudden and short snowfall that closed several roads and caused more than a dozen crashes.
Most roads are still snow-covered.
“Extreme cold temperatures make it difficult for road treatments to work and hopefully the extra time will help,” School Superintendent Deborah Low said in an email this morning. “We will check with the road crew and send a final email at 7 a.m.”
At 5:40, Ridgefield Academy’s weather station measured minus 3. With gusts of 8 to 16 mph, the wind chill was as low as minus 19.
The high today is predicted to be about 13 degrees.
For Wednesday, Jan. 22, Metro-North reports will operate a regular weekday schedule on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines. Delays and train combinations are likely depending upon the severity of the storm and its impact on our service territory.
