After weeks of slowly rising, average retail gasoline prices in Connecticut have fallen 2.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.67 yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 1,540 gas outlets in Connecticut.
This compares with the national average that has fallen 0.4 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.29, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Prices in Ridgefield included $3.69 cash at Valero, and $3.77 at the Stateline station on Route 35. The lowest in Danbury was at the Gulf station on Clapboard Ridge, $3.49. Low in the state was $3.47 at stations in Windsted, Hartford and Windsor.
Including the change in gas prices in Connecticut during the past week, prices yesterday were 1.1 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 3.1 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.
The national average has increased 6.8 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 3.4 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.
“As expected, the deep freeze during the last week impacted more than just the air temperature, but also kept a grip on gasoline prices,” said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.
“We saw very little change in the national average during the last seven days, and it’s likely that the winter blues continue to lead to an overall dull next few weeks at gasoline pumps across much of the country. Due to the slow demand that January and February typically see, it’d really take a monumental ice breaker to crack the grip that holds the national average in place. I forsee prices remaining relatively quiet this week.”
