The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. commemorative celebration will be held at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Monday, Jan. 20, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Town of Ridgefield, it’s open to the public at no charge and will include musical performances, readings and remarks by selected speakers.
The annual Spirit of Dr. King, Ridgefield Community Service Award will be presented to Anita Donofrio demonstrating “an outstanding commitment to community service and selflessness in the finest traditions of Dr. Martin Luther King.”
“This is an absolutely wonderful way to make the King ceremony bigger, better and more inclusive. And it would not have been possible without Allison and the Playhouse,” said First Selectman Rudy Marconi.
“The King holiday serves as a focal point for establishing and maintaining community service involving millions of Americans throughout the year to address critical social problems of this nation and to help improve the quality of life for humankind,” said Mark Robinson, ceremony organizer.
Invited to perform this year are The Ridgefield Chorale, Deborah Katchko-Gray and the TSI singers, the Serendipity Chorale, New World Chorus, the teens from Ridgefield’s A Better Chance program and Kimberly Wilson.
