King event honors Anita Donofrio

The 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. commemorative celebration will be held for the first time at the Ridgefield Playhouse on Monday, Jan. 20, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

This ceremony, under the auspices of the town of Ridgefield, is open to the public at no charge and will include musical performances, readings and remarks by selected speakers.

This year’s ceremony will acknowledge the work and dedication of Anita Donofrio with the annual Spirit of Dr. King, Ridgefield Community Service Award.

Ms. Donofrio has been a generous and tireless supporter of many Ridgefield community programs and initiatives, including the library, the Ridgefield Playhouse, Founders Hall, and the ROAR Animal Shelter.

Most of the past 18 ceremonies have been in the town hall, with much less space than the Playhouse.

“This is an absolutely wonderful way to make the King ceremony bigger, better and more inclusive. And it would not have been possible without Allison [Stockel] and the Playhouse,” said First Selectman Rudy Marconi.

Performers this year include the Ridgefield Chorale, Deborah Katchko-Gray and the TSI singers, the Serendipity Chorale, New World Chorus, the teens from Ridgefield’s A Better Chance program, and Kimberly Wilson.
