A Branchville businessman broke a Guinness world record in sabrage Sunday, opening 35 champagne bottles in a one-minute spree.
In a benefit for the Ridgefield Library that drew more than 100 onlookers, Mitch Ancona, owner of Ancona’s Wines and Liquors, lined up full bottles of champagne along a series of counters, and one-by-one, chopped off their glass tops using a sword.
The current world record, 32 bottles in a minute, is held by a Spanish man.
The event was covered by two television channels and was monitored by volunteer witnesses and timekeepers.
Application will be made to Guinness for the official record.
