In celebration of its 15th anniversary season, Concert Happenings in Ridgefield’s Parks (CHIRP) will present 25 free concerts over the course of the coming summer. In addition to Tuesday evenings from Memorial Day through Labor Day and Thursday evenings in July and August, two special additional concerts have been added to the schedule.

For Big Bands fans CHIRP is bringing The Fairfield Counts on Thursday, June 30,  and the Air National Guard’s, Jazz in Blue, on Friday, Aug. 19, both in Ballard Park.

Jazz in Blue is an 18-member big band that covers everything from dance hits of the swing era to up-to-the-minute hard-driving numbers, Latin, swing, salsa, or sizzling scat singing.

CHIRP is still in search of underwriters for a number of the summer concerts but donations of any amount are always appreciated.

“The more individuals who help support CHIRP the more evidence we have that we enjoy broad community support when we file grant applications,” organizer Barbara Manners said.

Contributions may be sent to CHIRP, Town Hall, 400 Main Street, Ridgefield, 06877.

Those interested in helping to underwrite a concert in 2016 may email Manners at mannersb@aol.com.  CHIRP is co-sponsored by the Town of Ridgefield through its Parks and Recreation Department and by The Ridgefield Press.
