Ann Christine (Wachsmuth) Burke
Ann Christine (Wachsmuth) Burke passed away on the evening of April 2 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She resided in Ridgefield for over 40 years. She was 81 years young. She was born January 21, 1935 to Ernst and Marion (Kummer) Wachsmuth. She attended Darien High School and graduated in 1953. Ann graduated from Virginia Intermont College in 1955. Ann was a runway fashion model in New York City. Her modelling career began in 1961. She traveled to exotic places like Australia and Hong Kong. She appeared in Vogue magazine and was the “house model” for Burke-Amey. Ann had the most beautiful blue eyes. They were described as blue as a summer sky and quite the most beautiful that have ever been seen. In her later years she worked retail and cared for others children. Ann was a fabulous knitter and was always be knitting for family and friends. She also knitted blankets for Project Linus which provides blankets to critically ill children.
Ann married and later divorced Joseph Burke and they had one son, Shawn, who was the light of her life. She was very proud of the man he has become and adored her 4 grandchildren. She had many friends and enjoyed her time living at Ballard Green in Ridgefield. She loved animals and had many pets throughout the years.
Ann enjoyed life. She cared very much for others. Ann was selfless and always worried about everyone else. She would not complain about her problems even while she was sick, so as not to burden anyone. She was a “glass half full person,” always looking on the bright side. She could take any situation and make a joke about it. Ann had a big heart full of love. We will remember her smile, her warmth, her energy, and her love for life.
Ann is survived by her son Shawn Burke and his wife Angel; her four grandchildren, Taylor, Tatiana, Trevor and Torie of Torrington, CT; her sister Nina Palmer of Westport, MA; her nieces Lisa Luttmann and her husband Mark and their children of Fort Washington, PA and Michelle Studwell and her children of Woodland Park, Colorado.
Ann will be remembered as a mother, grandmother, crazy aunt, best friend. She was a loving, supportive person who always put others before herself. Ann will be greatly missed and always be missed.
Friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street.
