Basic Bookkeeping/Accounting is a Ridgefield Continuing Education class to be taken in advance of an accounting course. No accounting knowledge is required. The course covers double entry bookkeeping/accounting and basics like accounts receivable, payables, journal entries, expenses, revenues and chart of accounts, as well as key accounting terms that help you tackle accounting software programs to manage a business. Participants learn how to retrieve financial information from accounts like cash balance, sales for the month, and paid bills.
Instructor Laura Jonassen has a bachelor of business administration and 12 years’ experience in accounting in both the public and corporate sector. She continued her career in non-profit and spent six years as the controller for Marymount College. She is currently teaching part time through the Putnam County School District.
The class meets on Wednesdays, April 6, 13 and 27, from 10 to noon, at the Venus Building. Cost is $71 (Ridgefield seniors age 62 and up pay $53), plus a workbook fee of $7 to $9. Information, ridgefieldschools.org or Peggy Bruno at 203-431-2812.
