Michael Zuccaro of Ridgefield has been named honoree of the Fairfield County Light the Night event on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Harbor Point Commons Park in Stamford. The Connecticut Westchester Hudson Valley Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s event honors local blood cancer survivors and commemorates individuals who have lost their lives to these diseases.
Zuccaro knew something was wrong when bruising appeared on his body that wouldn’t go away. After blood tests, he was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, one month before his daughter was born. His hospital stay was for two weeks. Zuccaro’s wife, Jennifer, stayed in the hospital those two weeks while they waited for the birth of their daughter, Natalie. The Danbury staff made accommodations for her so the two of them could be together through her last month of pregnancy. After eight months of treatment, Zuccaro was declared cancer-free and celebrated his one-year anniversary in January.
